Split Practice: Mark the Exact Ratio

Split gives you a line and a fraction, such as 3/7, and asks you to drop a marker at that point. Most targets land between 15 and 85 percent of the line, which makes the task interpolation rather than arithmetic.

Setting up the stage…

Practice the Five

How Split is played

  1. 1

    Read the ratio

A fraction sits above the line, always with the numerator smaller than the denominator in a normal question. The miss is not measured in pixels but as a share of the line.

  2. 2

    Drag the marker

Drag from the stated end, or nudge with the arrow keys — one percent a press, five with Shift — and release to lock the mark.

  3. 3

    Read the gap

The result marks the true point and reports how far your mark sat from it, as a percentage of the line, then scores it.

Split questions

Can a Split target go past the end of the line?

On the Friday variant, yes: the mark is a percentage from 5 to 200, and anything over 100 sits beyond the end of the line. The stage extends far enough for the mark to stay reachable at 200.

Which end do I measure from?

The question says so — left or right. Fractions are read from the stated end, so 2/5 from the right is the mirror of 2/5 from the left.

Why does a small miss still cost points?

The line is the whole scale. One sigma on a normal Split is five percent of the line, so a mark ten percent off already scores in the teens.
